Equinox Union: strategising for future travel industry challenges
We’re buzzing from our recent trip to Barcelona for the Equinox Union – the inaugural edition of what will be an annual event organised by and for the Equinox team!
The Union is a rare chance for us all to come together to share ideas and goals, and to spend quality time together given that we all work from home. It’s also a way for us to celebrate how far we’ve come and to set ourselves up for a successful year ahead (and beyond). Our thinking is that the better connected, informed and aligned our team is, the smoother your travels. Here’s how the event unfolded.
Celebrating achievements and looking ahead
The first ever Equinox Union brought together the Equinox Travel and Equinox Charter teams at SLS Barcelona for a full programme of sessions, discussions and team building. The theme throughout was clear: how we evolve to support a changing travel landscape.
The opening sessions were a chance for us to reflect on how far the business has come in just over five years, to outline goals for the year ahead and to discuss the challenges facing the travel and live events industries. Underpinning this, our Chief Operating Officer Trevor Johnson underlined the importance of confidence, communication and shared values. Touring, and indeed travel in general, is rarely straightforward – flights change, schedules shift, venues move – and a united team capable of strong internal communication gives clients the reassurance that we can handle anything.
The Union was also an opportunity for us to look ahead and strategise to meet the challenges of the future. As the wider travel sector evolves, we’re exploring how to diversify our expertise into adjacent areas of travel while strengthening our core music and entertainment offering. This forward planning is critical for us to continue providing an exceptional service to our clients, as it means we’re better equipped to handle industry developments such as rising costs, route changes or new destinations.

Discussion and collaboration
An open forum between the wider team and directors formed a key part of the day. More than 30 questions were raised in advance and discussed openly, reinforcing the open-door culture that helps our staff solve problems quickly and escalate issues when tours are live.
One of the standout sessions featured our long-term collaborator and veteran Tour Manager Sean Fitzpatrick, who’s spent his career working with major international artists including Kylie Minogue, Simply Red, Leona Lewis and many more. His Q&A focused on the realities of touring life and, crucially, the role travel partners play when things don’t go to plan. The team came away with valuable insights into common frustrations on tour, better equipping them for supporting clients when they’re on the road.
Smarter systems behind the scenes
Another important milestone celebrated at the Union was our rollout of Nova, our bespoke hotel booking system built specifically for the music and comedy touring sector.
Touring logistics are complex, and traditional booking methods leave room for human error. Nova is designed to improve efficiency, create service consistency and streamline our internal workflows, all of which help us respond faster and more accurately to our clients’ needs.
We’ll share more about this soon, but for the time being we were able to conduct some familiarisation and training around this new system while we were in Barcelona. Watch this space.
Building a strong team
Equinox Union is all about building relationships within our talented team and creating a shared understanding of what great service looks like in the high-pressure environment of a touring show, and across the travel industry more generally. But it’s also a chance for us to connect with and celebrate our hotel partners, who kindly sponsored this event. We’ll be giving them a well-deserved shout-out in our next post, so stay tuned!
